• Lead Wildlife Management Division efforts in a nine-county district in southeastern North Carolina • Provide professional expertise and guidance to private landowners, land managers, corporations, and governmental units on wildlife habitat enhancement and population management • Provide technical guidance on nuisance wildlife and wildlife damage involving species such as American alligators, black bears, coyotes, white-tailed deer, and Canada geese • Develop and deliver educational materials to professionals, organizations, and the public • Assist with wildlife research projects and recurring surveys • Serve as district coordinator for biological data collection • Monitor game and nongame species population trends • Investigate and monitor wildlife morbidity and mortality, including disease investigations and surveillance • Respond to wildlife emergencies and handle living and dead wildlife • Assist with inspections of fox and controlled hunting preserves, wildlife rehabilitation facilities, and holding facilities • Assist the Law Enforcement Division with identification, handling, and disposition of unlawfully held wildlife • Assist with development and review of state hunting regulations and agency guidelines • Represent the agency in state, regional, and national wildlife-management initiatives and partnerships • Report directly to the Coastal Operations Supervisor
• Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, fisheries science, zoology, biological science, or closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience • Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify • Understanding of advanced principles of scientific methods, biological techniques, wildlife biology, botany, forestry, and ecology • Understanding of wildlife capture, immobilization, restraint, transport, and euthanasia techniques • Accomplished communication skills for coordinating with resource professionals and relaying technical information to employees and the public • Experience with personal computers, software programs, and smart devices • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail • Valid NC Driver's License required within 90 days of employment • Home-based duty station in WRC District 4 • Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with frequent daily travel and occasional overnight stays • Required proof of employment eligibility on the first day of employment; participation in E-Verify
