📋 Description

• Audit and investigate enforcement of Vermont Tax Laws relating to taxpayer compliance with the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and International Registration Plan (IRP) • Audit fuel tax, rental companies, rail, IFTA, and IRP revenues • Provide taxpayer technical assistance and education for auditees • Perform duties independently from a home office and extensively in the field at taxpayer locations • Complete audits requiring tact and persistence in potentially adversarial situations • Meet predictable work deadlines

🎯 Requirements

• Three (3) years or more of college coursework in accounting, auditing, business administration, or related field, OR two (2) years or more of experience in tax examination, accounting, auditing, or business administration, OR one (1) year or more of experience as a MV Tax Field Auditor I or higher with the State of Vermont • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Inquisitive, collaborative, digitally proficient, and self-motivated • Desire to learn new skills and software used for tax administration • Ability to communicate challenging topics to individuals with varied backgrounds • Must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background investigation, which may include criminal, financial, and traffic records checks • Must have a reliable means of transportation • Must be able to travel frequently and potentially travel to other parts of the State
