• Serve as steward of the Principals' vision for Space Program and preserve its mission, culture, scale, and artistic excellence • Guide the creative direction and quality of residency experiences, exhibitions, and programming • Lead day-to-day operations, capacity planning, annual priorities, implementation, and organizational reputation • Direct artist recruitment, selection, onboarding, scheduling, resident support, and the residency calendar • Develop creative projects with resident artists from concept through execution • Oversee residencies, exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, open studios, and community programs • Ensure studios, workshops, equipment, and shared creative spaces are safe and functional • Coordinate schedules, studio assignments, vendors, logistics, facility usage, project resources, and approved budgets • Build relationships throughout the Bay Area arts community and serve as primary ambassador to artists, galleries, collectors, alumni, and cultural partners • Mentor resident artists and foster a welcoming, collaborative residency environment • Conduct residency tours and cultivate mission-supporting partnerships for Principal approval • Lead the Studio Manager & Print Technician and coordinate workloads, production schedules, and operational priorities • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, performance feedback, staffing, and succession planning • Maintain operational documentation, contracts, inventories, and program records • Prepare operational updates, planning materials, and recommendations for the Principals • Evaluate processes and recommend improvements while preserving the organization's unique culture
• Demonstrated leadership experience within creative, cultural, educational, residency, museum, gallery, or mission-driven organizations • Respected artistic background and ability to mentor, collaborate with, and advise artists across disciplines • Demonstrated success developing and executing complex creative projects, exhibitions, residencies, educational programs, or community initiatives • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills with artists, alumni, collectors, galleries, donors, community organizations, and cultural partners • Strong organizational and project management skills for overseeing multiple concurrent priorities • Experience stewarding program resources while balancing creative opportunities with organizational capacity • Ability to lead through influence, foster collaboration, build consensus, and maintain accountability for organizational outcomes • Leadership philosophy grounded in creative excellence, operational discipline, thoughtful stewardship, and exceptional artist experiences
