• Accurately schedule diagnostic and/or surgical procedures • Demonstrate the nursing process and receive verbal orders from physicians • Ensure documented physician orders are obtained and manage other orders for scheduled patients • Conduct physician office and patient interviews • Explain hospital procedure guidelines and policies • Coordinate with clinical departments on schedule modifications • Ensure patients are properly bedded • Obtain complete and accurate clinical, demographic, and financial information during scheduling • Enter data into scheduling systems or other applications • Provide preparation and appointment instructions • Follow procedures for special requests, STAT requests, and schedule modifications • Coordinate communications with clinical areas to accommodate customer requests • Answer telephone calls according to scheduling scripts • Maintain positive customer service and refer unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor • Notify customers of physician order, pre-authorization, and financial clearance requirements • Perform other PASU or registration functions when requested • Interview, hire, train, assign, direct, appraise, reward, and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems • Identify opportunities to improve patient relations and shorten scheduling handling time • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external clients
• Prior RN or LPN clinical experience is mandatory • Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm • Demonstrated working knowledge of software, systems, and equipment • Advanced customer service skills and experience • Ability to work in a call center environment • Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications • Course in Medical Terminology required • High achievement in productivity • High-level problem-solving and analytical skills • Technical accuracy, excellent communication skills, and highest ethical standards • High school diploma or equivalent • Graduate of a professional nursing program with current LPN or RN licensure preferred • 2–5 years of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area • 3+ years in Patient Access/Scheduling preferred • Some college coursework preferred • Must obtain and provide confirmation of required vaccinations and screenings prior to employment, as applicable and permitted by law • Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands • Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods • Occasionally lift/carry items weighing up to 25 lbs. • Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking • Ability to work in hospital administration and patient care locations with potential exposure to life-threatening patient conditions
