📋 Description

• Manage a docket of complex medical malpractice and general liability claims for acute hospitals and employed providers • Oversee insured litigation defense from incident reports and investigation through notice of claim, suit, discovery, mediation, settlement, arbitration, or trial • Work with hospital administration, risk managers, or patient safety managers to collect and review incident reports, medical records, billing records, and co-defendant contracts • Escalate important incidents to leadership • Retain and direct defense counsel • Assist counsel with witness coordination and discovery responses • Monitor claims and supervise counsel to ensure timely litigation strategy, including answers, expert retention, dispositive motions, mediations, and trial preparation • Evaluate cases for reserve adjustments and prepare reports for the VP/AGC and senior leadership • Attend mediations as organizational negotiator and attend trials to monitor and adjust strategy • Prepare reports for insurance carriers • Meet regularly with the VP/AGC for Litigation regarding high-risk claims • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree • Seven plus years of experience including medical malpractice or healthcare-related claims management • Proficiency in legal case management software and/or claims database systems and court filing portals • Working knowledge of medical procedures, terminology, healthcare standards of care, regulation, and state court litigation procedures • General research, analytical, and computer skills, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel • Extensive negotiation and strategy experience • Excellent written and spoken interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to work independently with strong time management and organizational skills • Strong customer service orientation and meticulous attention to detail • Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment • Ability to interact with individuals at all organizational levels, including top executives and outside counsel • Up to 10% travel may be required • Final candidate subject to a Motor Vehicle Records check
