• Support development efforts to maintain and expand Theiagen's bioinformatics solutions. • Ensure the core functionality and stability of software used in pathogen genomics. • Lead development and delivery of training workshops, including material preparation, logistics, and communication with external partners. • Lead subject matter expert support for external partners and support genomic investigations such as pathogen outbreaks. • Ensure adherence to and continuous improvement of internal training and support practices. • Bridge partners and the development team by translating partner needs into effective implementation. • Communicate with the Public Health Team Lead about project statuses, challenges, milestones, and critical information. • Mentor junior team members and foster learning and technical excellence.
• Masters or doctoral degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science, microbiology, molecular biology, or related field. • Demonstrated expertise applying bioinformatics tools and workflows to answer complex biological questions, particularly in pathogen genomics. • Advanced proficiency in genome assembly, annotation, taxonomic classification, and antimicrobial resistance detection. • Deep knowledge of statistical approaches and bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data analysis. • Proficiency with genomic epidemiology methods, including phylogenetics, outbreak investigation tools, and MLST typing. • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects independently or within a collaborative team environment. • Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience presenting technical results to diverse audiences. • Effective judgment and advanced problem-solving skills with minimal supervision. • Strong motivation and demonstrated impact in public health initiatives. • Preferred: Comprehensive knowledge of public health laboratory processes and workflows, including validation and verification of bioinformatics workflows. • Preferred: Expertise interpreting bioinformatics results and providing actionable public health insights. • Preferred: Significant experience analyzing pathogen genomics datasets for public health applications. • Preferred: Advanced experience with cloud-based bioinformatics platforms such as Terra.bio and Galaxy, and workflow orchestration tools such as Nextflow, WDL, or Snakemake. • Preferred: Hands-on expertise with visualization and reporting tools. • Preferred: Proficiency in shell scripting and UNIX/Linux environments. • Preferred: Leadership experience mentoring junior team members. • Must be able to provide proof of ability to work in the US upon hire; sponsorship is not offered at this time.
