📋 Description

• Review inpatient medical records within 24–48 hours of admission for accuracy, completeness, severity of illness, acuity, and resource consumption • Assign working DRGs based on principal diagnosis and procedure • Identify comorbidities, complications, present-on-admission diagnoses, quality issues, and documentation opportunities • Enter and update information in Epic and 3M 360 • Conduct 24–48-hour inpatient chart follow-up reviews • Communicate documentation improvement opportunities to physicians and other patient care providers • Assist with developing and presenting documentation education to CDI staff, providers, and healthcare team members • Assess clinical indicators for diagnoses and integrate current clinical documentation improvement techniques • Formulate compliant queries to clarify conflicting, ambiguous, or nonspecific documentation • Escalate issues to senior team members, providers, or administrators when appropriate • Collaborate with CDI Specialist III on problematic cases and educational needs • Identify and discuss PSI/HAC risk-management or quality-program cases • Conduct independent research on clinical topics, coding guidelines, regulatory policies, trends, and healthcare economics • Participate in CDI-related education activities and maintain certifications and licensures • Provide timely, professional internal and external customer service • Maintain UMMC network security and protect personal health information while working remotely • Perform other assigned duties

🎯 Requirements

• Five (5) years of clinical nursing in Acute Care, Utilization Review, Case Management, Quality Management and/or Hospital-based Clinical Documentation experience • Valid RN license • CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) preferred upon hire, but required within three years of hire • Knowledge of evidence-based clinical guidelines across a wide variety of conditions and age groups • Knowledge of resource/utilization management • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications • Ability to manage multiple priorities under time constraints • Ability to analyze and solve problems • Understanding of cost and quality issues • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies • Decision-making skills • Demonstrated ability to maintain working relationships within the department and across all business units • Healthcare revenue cycle experience preferred • Proficient knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook) • Proficient use of Epic and 3M 360 • Must maintain a current ACDIS Certification status • Employee must set aside a dedicated workspace at home and ensure confidential material cannot be accessed by unauthorized persons
