United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a national museum and living memorial in Washington, D. C. that documents, preserves, and interprets the history of the Holocaust and related genocides. The Museum maintains extensive collections (more than 270,000 records including photos, personal stories, artifacts, and films), offers permanent, special, traveling and online exhibitions, and provides education and outreach programs for teachers, students, military, law enforcement, judiciary, religious leaders, and international audiences. It also supports academic research, maintains databases such as the Database of Holocaust Survivor and Victim Names, and runs genocide prevention and antisemitism resources and initiatives. The Museum is free and open to the public (closed Yom Kippur and Christmas Day) and is located at 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place SW, Washington, DC.

📋 Description

• Undertake a semester-long research project and produce a policy memo • Research and analyze dynamics in countries experiencing or at risk of experiencing mass atrocities • Draft written products relating to the prevention of or response to mass atrocities in relevant contexts • Assist in tracking policy outreach to key stakeholders • Support the organizing of private or public convenings • Prepare detailed notes from interviews and meetings • Perform other duties as assigned • Assist with policy analysis and engagement while tracking risks of mass atrocities and developments in genocide prevention

🎯 Requirements

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree as a junior or senior at the time of applying, or pursuing a graduate degree from an accredited university • Strong interest in genocide and mass atrocity prevention, demonstrated by dedicated coursework, research experience, and/or professional experience • Excellent communication and collaboration skills • Strong organization and attention to detail • Submit a one-page resume, one-page cover letter, and writing sample • Writing sample should be a relatively short 5–7 page policy memo or excerpt from a class paper • Writing sample must demonstrate ability to conduct research and analysis on topics relevant to the Simon-Skjodt Center • Writing sample must demonstrate ability to communicate clearly about research findings
