📋 Description

• Build a governed model access layer for self-hosted open-weight models, cloud-managed models, and customer- or partner-supplied models • Integrate AI capabilities into product experiences and enterprise workflows across batch, interactive, and agentic patterns • Establish reusable patterns for evaluation, versioning, approvals, audit trails, cost control, guardrails, and safe rollout/rollback • Partner with product, engineering, security, QARA/compliance, IT, scientific, and commercial teams on AI-native architectures • Move between assignments as business priorities shift and make solutions reusable across the business • Deliver a production-ready, compliant, multi-tenant, auditable, and secure AI/LLM serving and invocation layer • Establish a model governance workflow satisfying regulated customers and Velsera's quality system • Ship two or three end-to-end AI capabilities across different business areas • Create integration patterns supporting reproducibility, traceability, and standards alignment • Establish monitoring, evaluation harnesses, incident playbooks, cost visibility, and measurable SLOs • Develop an evidence-backed point of view on where to build, buy, or avoid AI • Set technical direction for the future AI platform and enablement team

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years shipping AI/ML systems to production • Strong Python and one of Java, Go, or TypeScript • Comfortable in a polyglot codebase and production code review • Hands-on secure cloud architecture experience on at least one major cloud, including network isolation, IAM boundaries, private connectivity, and audit logging • Readiness to work across AWS, Azure, and GCP • Experience operating or integrating self-hosted open-weight models, managed model APIs, and customer-provided models • MLOps/LLMOps experience with AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Azure AI Foundry, or equivalent • Experience building governance for ML/LLM systems, including evaluation, versioning, approvals, rollout, rollback, and deprecation • Experience designing for regulated or audited environments such as HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, FedRAMP, SOC 2, GDPR, or similar • Experience with RAG and LLM tool-use/agentic patterns beyond prototypes, including evaluation • Track record integrating with existing products, third-party SaaS, and enterprise data sources • Clear written communication for engineering, product, security, compliance, business, and scientific audiences • Comfort switching context across problem domains and starting from ambiguous requirements • Experience in genomics, biomedical data, or life sciences platforms is nice to have • Experience with ISO 13485, IEC 62304, IVDR, clinical/diagnostic contexts, CWL/WDL/Nextflow, GA4GH, FHIR, OMOP, enterprise systems integration, multi-cloud production, or customer-/grant-funded engagements is nice to have
