VillageSQL is an open-source, drop-in replacement for MySQL that provides an extensible platform of database extensions and functions. It offers a framework to install and build extensions (custom data types, functions, and indexes) using standard SQL commands, and includes AI-focused capabilities—an AI Extension/agent skill that can call LLMs from SQL and create embeddings for vector search—alongside prebuilt extensions such as UUID, Network (IPv6/MAC), Crypto, HTTP, REST endpoints, trigram and fuzzy string matching, cube, and boolean types. VillageSQL targets developers and organizations who want MySQL compatibility while adding modern, agentic AI and extensibility for enterprise and developer workloads.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and implement core database features for VillageSQL • Utilize your strong C and C++ skills to write efficient, reliable, and maintainable code • Architect and build the extension framework • Collaborate closely with the founding team to define the technical vision, roadmap, and priorities for VillageSQL • Engage with the open-source community • Optimize database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions • Ensure the security and integrity of the VillageSQL database • Participate in code reviews and promote best practices in software development • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on C and C++ development • Deep understanding of relational database management systems (RDBMS) concepts and architecture • Proven ability to design, develop, and implement complex, high-performance systems • Experience in developing and integrating extensions, plugins, or modules for database systems is highly desirable • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and computer architecture • Experience with performance tuning, profiling, and optimization techniques • Familiarity with open-source development practices, version control systems (e.g., Git) • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills • Passion for open-source software and a desire to contribute to a community-driven project • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
