• Collect and submit reliable data to the specific national quality database through data compilation, documentation, and database entry • Work with hospital departments to analyze data and present it in a usable format for clinical quality and performance improvements • Identify opportunities for clinical quality and performance improvement and support special projects • Identify patient populations using program inclusion/exclusion criteria and protocols • Collect patient information from medical records • Attend weekly Morbidity and Mortality conferences to ensure reliable adverse-occurrence data collection • Conduct inter-rater reliability testing for reviewer methodology and definitions • Identify streamlining and process improvement opportunities in data collection • Use appropriate resources to obtain valid, reliable data for database entry • Use software applications for data collection and analysis • Analyze data and present solutions with physicians and staff to improve processes • Enter database data accurately and timely while meeting caseload accrual requirements • Build working relationships across the hospital, especially with nursing, health information management, and informatics staff • Contact patients and families by telephone or written communication as needed • Develop educational materials and deliver presentations about the database • Participate in required program teleconferences and annual national conference
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Respiratory Therapy and three years of hospital-setting experience; OR • Diploma/Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Respiratory Therapy and three years of quality outcomes experience in a hospital setting; OR • Master’s degree and one year of hospital-setting experience • Three years of healthcare experience emphasizing process improvement activities and productivity systems preferred • One year of clinical chart review and abstraction preferred • Successfully complete required National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) training • Ability to build relationships, gain alignment for clinical support, and articulate questions to supervisors, surgeons, and peers • Ability to interact professionally and courteously with surgical team members and administrative staff • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Access, and other software for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data • Knowledge and competency in computer literacy, assertiveness, community and system resources, flexibility, interpersonal relations, diplomacy, written and verbal communication, negotiation, analysis, and research methods • Ability to walk and stand for long periods • Ability to lift 30 pounds and push 50 pounds • Dexterity to finger, handle, and reach
