📋 Description

• Gather accurate and appropriate information into coding classification systems to meet departmental, hospital, and outside agency requirements • Ensure appropriate reimbursement, compliance, and charging under coding guidelines and regulatory requirements • Obtain accurate and complete medical-record documentation for coding/MS-DRG assignment, severity of illness, and risk of mortality • Code inpatients and/or interventional RAD cardiology/radiology for 90% of current FTE status • Code highly complex patient classes, including inpatient and IRAD • Review and interpret medical-record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures affecting inpatient stays or outpatient encounters • Assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and modifier codes • Ensure appropriate MS-DRG assignment • Assign hospital codes to various patient classes • Complete quality and timely coding, charging, and abstraction of accounts daily • Maintain and enhance coding knowledge through quality review, clinical in-services, coding seminars, internal meetings, reference materials, and coding-manual updates • Review data accurately and timely to obtain a clean bill • Contact physicians and other necessary persons to obtain information required for accurate coding • Communicate with other offices to facilitate the billing process

🎯 Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent • Current HIM or Coding Certification through ONE of the following: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) • Three (3) years of hospital inpatient coding or interventional radiology (IRAD) hospital coding experience • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology • Ability to concentrate and maintain accuracy during constant interruptions • Independent decision-making ability • Ability to prioritize job duties • Ability to handle high-stress situations • Ability to adapt to changes in the workplace • Ability to organize and complete assigned tasks • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to sit for long periods of time • Visual and hearing acuity within the normal range • Manual dexterity needed to operate computer and office equipment • Preferred: Graduate of Health Information Technology (HIT) or equivalent program OR Medical Coding Certification Program
