📋 Description

• Own merchant risk policy, including onboarding criteria, verification standards, exceptions, escalation paths, and ongoing monitoring • Define Jane's risk appetite in partnership with Legal, Finance, and the VP • Own portfolio losses and risk reporting, including loss rate, approval rate, time-to-decision, dispute win rate, budgeting, and forecasting • Develop transaction monitoring strategy, including rules, risk flags, review processes, thresholds, decision times, and false-positive rates • Set dispute strategy to improve customer win rates and prevent disputes • Make escalation, hold, and merchant offboarding decisions, seeking executive or legal sign-off when needed • Identify fraudulent merchants and merchants whose risk profile has deteriorated • Recommend approaches for card network and Stripe compliance obligations with Legal and the VP • Develop systems and tooling strategy, reimagining manual processes as AI-native systems with agentic workflows while determining where human review is needed • Build the payments risk function and collaborate across teams

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years in payments risk • Leadership or highly cross-functional experience ideally • Experience with embedded payments at a software platform that carries liability • Expertise in acquiring, underwriting, chargebacks, and transaction monitoring • Familiarity with Stripe, especially Stripe Connect, or a comparable platform • Ability to write and implement effective policies • Ability to explain difficult decisions compassionately to clinic owners • Ability to build reporting independently • SQL, Stripe Sigma, or similar experience is a plus • Comfortable being the sole person in the function initially • Must currently live and work in Canada • Must be eligible to work in Canada without employer sponsorship • No relocation, visa sponsorship, or third-party/employer-of-record employment support
