Keewaytinook Okimakanak is a First Nations tribal council based in Fort William First Nation, Ontario that provides comprehensive administrative and community services to its member First Nations (Deer Lake, Fort Severn, Keewaywin, McDowell Lake, North Spirit Lake, Poplar Hill). It delivers healthcare and mental health services, eHealth partnerships, nursing home and community care, child and family services, education and employment supports, economic development, public works, finance, emergency management, and treaties/lands/resource assistance.

📋 Description

• Provide brief, client-centered crisis counselling and support via video, phone, and other digital platforms • Connect clients with community resources, mental health services, and social supports • Manage each client’s case from initiation to resolution • Coordinate necessary support and collaborate with service providers and partners • Conduct client-needs assessments and develop individualized action plans and realistic goals • Provide crisis intervention, stabilization, safety planning, and connections to urgent resources • Deliver holistic counselling that respects NAN cultural values and practices • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and prepare detailed reports • Engage in ongoing in-person training and professional development • Travel occasionally to NAN remote communities and regional offices as needed

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field • Proven experience in mental health counselling with First Nations individuals, families and communities • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities • Proficiency with virtual care platforms and technology • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, family systems theory, crisis therapy intervention, individual/family/group therapy, trauma response, child abuse and family violence, addictions, harm reduction, de-escalation, suicide intervention, and cognitive behavioral therapy or other relevant techniques • Deep understanding of and respect for NAN cultural practices, teachings, and spiritual beliefs • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends • Ability to speak a NAN dialect (Cree, OjiCree or Ojibway) is an asset • Skills using OTN, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Teams, and electronic medical record-keeping software • Potential willingness and ability to travel to NAN remote communities and regional offices • Satisfactory criminal record check • Private and secure home office with reliable, strong Wi-Fi connectivity
