📋 Description

• Design, build, test, and continually improve Marqeta’s user interfaces and supporting backend services • Define and deliver well-scoped project milestones • Serve as a technical lead for projects when needed • Use customer and product-stakeholder input to determine technical solutions that deliver customer value quickly • Mentor and develop less-experienced team members • Write clear, maintainable, reusable, efficient, adaptable code with minimal bugs • Identify gaps, challenge the status quo, and propose innovative solutions • Lead design for medium components/features and participate in design for larger components/features • Own a system component or feature • Independently design testable, debuggable software components with logical, maintainable APIs • Participate in on-call coverage • Collaborate with the team and cross-functional partners

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 8 years experience; in lieu of a degree, 8+ years of relevant experience may suffice • 2+ years of backend experience in any OOP language • Experience with OAuth 2.0, JWTs, and user session management • Experience developing applications with the modern Java backend stack using Spring Boot and Kubernetes on AWS • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs • Experience with JavaScript and Node.js • Experience developing scalable microservices on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail • Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally and deliver a project • Experience with CI/CD, containerized applications, and Agile (Scrum) • Ability to communicate relevant information, including difficult task-level trade-offs impacting the product • Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to identify technical blind spots and clarify ambiguity • Experience with Payments or Fintech is a nice to have • Experience with React, Angular, VueJS, or NextJS is a nice to have • Experience with highly available distributed systems, including sharding, replication, load balancing, and caching, is a nice to have
