📋 Description

• Conduct loss analysis and research before on-site occupational safety and loss prevention surveys • Assess policyholder safety efforts and detect occupational safety hazards • Prepare and submit findings reports to management • Recommend corrections for hazards and safety and loss control program needs • Participate in management training programs • Research safety and loss control literature, laws, standards, and technical developments • Provide Underwriting with risk assessments supporting underwriting determinations • Work with standard to large accounts and accounts with complex hazards and safety issues • Mentor and guide Safety and Loss Control Trainees as needed • Participate in policyholder training sessions with Senior Safety and Loss Control Consultants • Consult with policyholders to improve occupational safety programs and performance • Provide underwriters with policyholder safety information • Evaluate policyholder safety programs and worksites for hazardous conditions • Conduct simple Industrial Hygiene testing • Develop cost-effective methods to correct hazardous conditions • Analyze loss information to determine accident trends and solutions • Provide timely underwriting reports on hazards, controls, and policyholder compliance • Keep Underwriting informed of changes in hazards or exposures • Respond to policyholder, underwriter, and agency safety requests • Provide leadership and motivation to support staff

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required, preferably in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related field • Knowledge of occupational safety and industrial hygiene processes • Knowledge of effective safety program management • Knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene risk management in business operations • Knowledge of workers' compensation laws, policies, and rules • Understanding of insurance and risk management principles • Basic understanding of guaranteed cost, deductibles, retrospective rating plans, and accident prevention impacts • Knowledge of rating systems and experience modification factor calculations • Understanding of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics loss information, formulas, and incidence-rate calculations • Knowledge of basic business financial principles for cost-effectiveness and ROI analysis • Ability to make sound judgments and work independently • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with policyholders, regulatory agencies, and labor communities • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Ability to compile, analyze, and report findings • Knowledge of Federal OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and NFPA standards • Effective oral and written communication skills • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle • Valid driver's license required • Preferred: master's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene • Preferred: two years of occupational safety management or consulting experience • Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, ARM, or ASP
