📋 Description

• Oversee day-to-day accounting activities for Oportun’s loan portfolio and debt • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and according to applicable accounting standards and company policies • Lead the month-end close process for loan- and debt-related accounts • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analysis, and other close activities • Supervise, develop, guide, prioritize, and review the work of accounting staff • Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls • Identify automation opportunities, streamline workflows, improve data quality, and increase close and reporting efficiency • Leverage AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies while maintaining review, governance, and internal controls • Partner with Finance, Technology, and other business teams on process improvements, automation solutions, and scalable accounting practices • Support Oportun’s financial reporting objectives

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field • Minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting guidance • Experience with loan, lending, debt, or financial-services-related accounting activities • Ability to lead, coach, develop, and review accounting professionals • Ability and willingness to responsibly leverage AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies • Experience with internal controls and accounting process improvements • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines with limited supervision • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred • Experience in consumer lending, financial services, fintech, banking, or a related industry preferred • Experience implementing accounting process improvements, workflow automation, or financial-system enhancements preferred • Familiarity with AI-enabled accounting, finance, analytics, or productivity tools preferred
