📋 Description

• Lead the development, evaluation and refinement of environmental compliance and monitoring programs in accordance with regulatory requirements • Supervise site-based Environmental Specialists, contractors and students, including orientation, development and training • Develop and maintain site-based work procedures, health and safety procedures, and risk assessments, including Personal Safety Cards and Job Hazard Analyses • Manage technical consultants and oversee field- and office-based scopes of work • Review technical reports prepared by consultants • Manage and report on project schedules, deliverables and budgets, including equipment-budget planning • Support mining operations with technical and regulatory guidance • Support permitting activities for new developments and changes to existing operations • Participate in planning related to water supply and mine-waste movement • Maintain entries in corporate risk and knowledge-management systems and support Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission reporting requirements • Serve as the primary site-based environmental contact for operational matters, including wildlife incidents, water and waste management, and spill reporting • Oversee environmental equipment and materials inventory, purchasing and maintenance • Manage and participate in sampling and monitoring programs required under applicable licences, permits and agreements • Use ArcGIS and GPS software, including BaseCamp and MapSource, for mapping and navigation • Oversee the safe and authorized use of firearms within the Environment Department

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree • Five to ten years of directly related experience, preferably within the mining industry • Knowledge of environmental regulations, compliance monitoring and associated analytical techniques • Supervisory experience considered an asset • Experience working in northern Canada considered an asset • Knowledge of the northern regulatory environment considered an asset • Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills • Sound knowledge of environmental monitoring and compliance programs • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and budgets • Strong technical-report review and problem-solving abilities • Collaborative approach and ability to interact respectfully with internal departments, contractors, regulators and external organizations • Strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environmental responsibility • Must obtain and maintain required security and medical clearances for access to the remote Ekati Mine Site • Proficiency with ArcGIS and GPS software, including BaseCamp and MapSource • Ability to safely and authoriz​​edly use firearms within the Environment Department
