CALSTART provides scientific, technical and policy support for regulatory development and clean technology and infrastructure acceleration. • Position Overview: • The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as a strategic and operational leader, responsible for overseeing CALSTART’s core business operations to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and long-term strategy. The COO will play a key role in driving organizational effectiveness, strengthening cross-functional collaboration, and scaling CALSTART’s impact in the clean transportation and climate space. • As a trusted partner to the CEO and executive team, the COO will manage internal operations, refine systems and processes, and lead key operational functions including finance, people operations, technology, compliance, and project execution.
• 10+ years of senior operational leadership, ideally in mission-driven, growth-oriented organizations • Strong track record in leading complex teams and business functions, with demonstrated results in scaling operations and organizational impact • Deep understanding of nonprofit or public sector financial management, compliance, and human capital development • Experience in climate, sustainability, transportation, or clean tech sectors is a significant plus • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and change management skills • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with a collaborative leadership style • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Environmental Policy, or related field; Master’s degree strongly preferred
