📋 Description

• Own key architectural decisions for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS and Android • Define what should be shared, what should remain native, and how platform layers work together • Turn the architecture into shipped production code with performance, reliability and observability foundations • Deliver a React Native product surface into production within six months • Establish stable capabilities and platform primitives for feature teams • Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the mobile platform migration • Work with major product teams adopting the platform • Establish trusted and reusable engineering patterns • Influence mobile architecture decisions across 800+ frontend engineers • Build foundations used by Canva product teams across iOS, Android and web

🎯 Requirements

• Built or significantly evolved a large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture in production • Led a meaningful migration of a mature mobile product onto a new architecture while live and growing • Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams • Organisation-wide architectural influence • Hands-on technical depth and ability to work through hard implementation details • Strong engineering judgement and first-principles reasoning • Knowledge of shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, bundle delivery and performance profiling on real devices • Deep iOS and Android fundamentals • Experience with mobile performance, reliability, crash monitoring and optimisation at scale • Experience with shared capabilities, libraries, abstractions and infrastructure across engineering teams • Strong engineering fundamentals, including data structures, complexity and system-level trade-offs • React Native and React are highly relevant; Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform or another production-scale cross-platform stack also considered • Nice-to-have: React Native internals, Rust or C/C++, open-source contributions, mobile CI/CD, AI tooling experience
