📋 Description

• Own key architectural decisions for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS, and Android • Turn the architecture into shipped production code with foundations for performance, reliability, and observability • Deliver a React Native product surface live in production within six months • Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the mobile platform migration • Work with major product teams adopting the platform and establish trusted engineering patterns • Influence mobile architecture decisions across 800+ frontend engineers • Build shared capabilities, libraries, abstractions, and infrastructure for Canva’s mobile product • Shape how Canva runs on iOS and Android for the next decade

🎯 Requirements

• Production experience building or significantly evolving large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture • Experience with React Native and React, or deep experience with Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, or another production-scale cross-platform stack • Experience leading migration of a mature mobile product onto a new architecture while live and growing • Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams • Organisation-wide architectural influence • Hands-on technical depth and comfort with difficult implementation details • Strong engineering judgement and first-principles reasoning • Mobile runtime knowledge: shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, bundle delivery, and performance profiling on real devices • Deep fundamentals across iOS and Android • Mobile performance, reliability, crash monitoring, and optimisation at scale • Platform architecture involving shared capabilities, libraries, abstractions, and infrastructure • Strong fundamentals in data structures, complexity, and system-level trade-offs • Nice to have: React Native internals, Rust or C/C++, open-source contributions, mobile CI/CD, AI tooling experience
