📋 Description

• Own the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling and codegen, balancing short-term fixes with long-term foundations • Mature Canva's mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA and staged rollout • Lead the staged migration of mobile repositories into Canva's monorepo while owning build, test and release continuity • Set the quality-gating strategy across the build pipeline and surface reliability and speed problems proactively • Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared foundation serving web and mobile • Work across Mobile Workflows, Cross Platform, Build Platform and DevX to unify fragmented tooling • Build monitoring and health signals for builds and releases • Mentor engineers so established standards outlast individual projects • Set technical direction for iOS and Android build systems, monorepo migration, and the React Native build pipeline • Build native foundations that support every Canva team shipping mobile features

🎯 Requirements

• Deep, hands-on expertise with Bazel, Gradle, or Xcode build systems at production scale • Track record of scoping and delivering complex projects spanning multiple teams, including migrations, monorepo consolidation, or build infrastructure at scale • Strong native engineering background in iOS, Android, or both • Experience owning CI/CD or release pipelines that other teams depend on • Ability to balance short-term delivery against long-term architecture and connect external tooling shifts to technical direction • Documentation and technical practices that have become reference standards for other engineers • Experience with Bazel build rules, custom rule sets, and monorepo build configuration at meaningful scale • Experience designing CI/CD quality gates and pipeline stages • Experience with React Native bundling, codegen, and native module integration in production • Xcode build system depth, including native iOS release configuration • Gradle depth, including native Android release configuration • Experience with OTA updates, staged rollout, and mobile deployment infrastructure • Experience migrating or operating within a large-scale monorepo • Nice to have: cross-language interop, mobile performance profiling and optimisation, platform advocacy, and experience with large established mobile user bases • Ability to provide pronouns and any reasonable interview adjustments when applying
