📋 Description

• Own the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling and codegen • Make trade-offs between short-term fixes and long-term build foundations • Mature Canva's mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA and staged rollout • Lead the staged migration of mobile repositories into Canva's monorepo • Own build, test and release continuity throughout the monorepo migration • Set the quality-gating strategy across the CI/CD pipeline • Surface build pipeline reliability and speed problems proactively • Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared foundation for web and mobile • Work across Mobile Workflows, Cross Platform, Build Platform and DevX • Consolidate fragmented tooling into one coherent system • Build monitoring and health signals for builds and releases • Mentor engineers and establish standards that outlast individual projects • Define technical direction for iOS and Android build systems, monorepo migration, and React Native build pipeline • Support Canva's native mobile foundations used by teams shipping mobile features

🎯 Requirements

• Deep, hands-on expertise with Bazel, Gradle, or Xcode build systems at production scale • Track record of scoping and delivering complex projects spanning multiple teams, including migrations, monorepo consolidation, or build infrastructure at scale • Strong native engineering background in iOS, Android, or both • Experience owning CI/CD or release pipelines that other teams depend on • Ability to balance short-term delivery against long-term architecture • Documentation and technical practices adopted as engineering standards • Bazel build rules, custom rule sets, and monorepo build configuration at meaningful scale • Experience designing CI/CD quality gates and pipeline stages • React Native bundling, codegen, and native module integration in a production pipeline • Xcode build system depth, including native iOS release configuration • Gradle depth, including native Android release configuration • Experience with OTA updates, staged rollout, and mobile deployment infrastructure • Experience migrating or operating within a large-scale monorepo • Nice to have: native bridging or codegen automation across JS and native runtimes • Nice to have: profiling and optimisation on native or hybrid mobile apps • Nice to have: getting engineering standards adopted beyond your own team • Nice to have: work on mobile products with a large, established user base • Applicants should provide pronouns and any reasonable interview adjustments needed
