📋 Description

• Own the roadmap for Bazel build rules, React Native bundling and codegen • Make trade-offs between short-term fixes and long-term build architecture foundations • Mature Canva's mobile release and deployment tooling, including OTA and staged rollout • Lead the staged migration of mobile repositories into Canva's monorepo • Own build, test, and release continuity during the monorepo migration • Set the quality-gating strategy across the CI/CD pipeline • Surface build-pipeline reliability and speed problems proactively • Evolve the React Native build pipeline into a shared web and mobile foundation • Align Mobile Workflows, Cross Platform, Build Platform, and DevX teams • Build monitoring and health signals for builds and releases • Mentor engineers and establish durable technical standards • Define technical direction for iOS and Android build systems, monorepo strategy, and the React Native build pipeline

🎯 Requirements

• Deep, hands-on expertise with Bazel, Gradle, or Xcode build systems at production scale • Track record of scoping and delivering complex projects spanning multiple teams • Strong native engineering background in iOS, Android, or both • Experience owning CI/CD or release pipelines that other teams depend on • Ability to balance short-term delivery against long-term architecture • Documentation and technical practices adopted as engineering standards • Expertise in Bazel build rules, custom rule sets, and monorepo build configuration • Experience designing CI/CD quality gates and pipeline stages • Experience with React Native bundling, codegen, and native module integration • Xcode build system and native iOS release configuration knowledge • Gradle and native Android release configuration knowledge • Experience with OTA updates, staged rollout, and mobile deployment infrastructure • Experience migrating or operating within a large-scale monorepo • Nice to have: native bridging or codegen automation across JS and native runtimes • Nice to have: mobile performance profiling and optimisation • Nice to have: platform advocacy and adoption of engineering standards • Nice to have: experience with large established mobile user bases
