📋 Description

• Identify, debug, and eliminate performance bottlenecks in the dbt-core execution engine and Python codebase • Architect and implement improvements to the adapter interface connecting dbt to databases and data platforms • Debug system-level issues involving Linux process management, concurrency models, database query planning, and network protocols • Lead technical design discussions and contribute to dbt Core’s long-term architectural roadmap • Mentor engineers and review open-source community contributions • Uphold standards for code quality, testing, and design • Own distributed systems and troubleshoot complex production issues • Participate in an on-call rotation to maintain high availability and platform resilience

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience focused on production backend systems • Deep backend engineering experience and proficiency in Python • Systematic, first-principles problem-solving approach • Ability to navigate and debug Linux environments, including process scheduling, memory management, and file systems • Solid understanding of database internals, including query execution engines, storage layers, indexing strategies, and transaction management • Excellent communication skills and sense of ownership • Ability to balance technical depth with fast, iterative delivery • Preferred: background in data warehousing, data engineering, or analytics engineering • Preferred: production experience with Go or Rust • Preferred: experience contributing to or maintaining a popular open-source project • Preferred: experience building compilers, interpreters, or developer tooling • Preferred: familiarity with performance analysis tools such as perf or strace
