📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end technical health of Phone Billing, including architectural bottlenecks, correctness and reliability risks, technical debt, billing accuracy, reconciliation, scalability, observability, and cost efficiency • Drive 1–2 high-impact initiatives from problem definition and technical discovery through architecture, implementation, rollout, and measurement • Own high-level architecture and scaling decisions for CPaaS abstractions, provider adapters, and shared messaging/voice APIs supporting billions of monthly events • Own Phone Billing usage metering, rating, reserve/commit lifecycle, idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails • Lead the evolution of Revenue Growth into a configuration-driven, rules-based platform • Work hands-on with NestJS, Firestore, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, queuing systems, data warehousing systems, and service mesh-based microservices • Lead cross-cutting initiatives improving reliability, latency, and throughput across high-concurrency APIs and workflows • Evolve monitoring, alerting using Prometheus/Grafana, and incident response strategies, including financial invariants • Leverage LLMs and AI tools to write, refactor, test, and debug code while implementing reliability guardrails • Partner with product, infrastructure, security, finance, and legal teams on data integrity, access control, and compliance across phone services • Develop engineering managers and senior engineers, build the leadership pipeline, plan succession, and raise the hiring bar • Participate in design reviews, deep dives, and on-call rotations

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with 2+ years of Staff role • Proven track record designing fault-tolerant systems operating at a scale of billions of hits or events • Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing • Experience building correctness-critical systems such as metering, ledgers, billing, payments, or comparable transactional domains • Working grasp of idempotency, exactly-once semantics, and reconciliation • Experience optimizing availability, performance, and reliability in production systems under load • Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models, especially complex transactional data • Experience designing policy- or rules-driven systems • Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments • Familiarity with hallucination mitigation strategies, including code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, and context injection • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including with Finance, Legal, and external partners • Pragmatic, hands-on leadership balancing long-term vision with iterative execution • Experience with usage-based billing or metering engines in a high-volume product • Exposure to telecom trust and compliance regimes, including 10DLC, toll-free verification, TCPA/TSR, DLT, carrier filtering, or number portability • Experience building provider-agnostic integration layers across multiple third-party vendors • Experience working with AI tools and communication APIs such as Twilio and Plivo • Contributions to open-source tools, internal platforms, or engineering blogs
