• Interface with other engineers to prepare computer-based models • Perform power system studies on utility distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems • Conduct long- and short-range planning studies, short-circuit, load-flow, motor-starting, power-factor-correction, DER-impact, and load-impact studies • Participate in internal and external client meetings • Perform system modeling, including steady-state load flows using CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, SKM, or similar tools • Conduct system reliability and resiliency planning studies • Perform distribution circuit analysis for loading, voltage, reactive power, contingency, coordination, and reliability • Conduct new-load and generation-interconnection studies • Recommend solutions and best practices for standard and non-standard situations • Perform detailed engineering analyses using standard methodology, criteria, and principles • Identify new technologies and work practices to reduce operational costs and potential safety hazards • Explain complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams • Self-manage work and collaborate with project teams
• BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET certified college or University • 2+ years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies • Experience with hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, and model validation • Experience using power flow analysis software such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or equivalent software • Prior experience working with or within electric utilities preferred • 5+ years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies preferred • Ability to work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment • Experience forecasting load and generation growth preferred • Familiarity with short circuit software including ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP preferred • Familiarity with distribution operation software such as ADMS and DERMS preferred • Familiarity with distribution design and/or drafting in AutoCAD preferred • Python use for automating functionality in power system modeling software preferred • Familiarity with utility protection philosophy and short circuit studies preferred • Experience with renewable energy generation facility design, such as solar, wind, or battery storage preferred • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including technical report writing • Familiarity with Independent System Operators such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, and SPP preferred
