📋 Description

• Reviews medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures relative to the patient's health care encounter • Selects the principal diagnosis and principal procedure using UHDDS definition • Ensures appropriate DRG assignment • Abstracts appropriate information from the medical record based on the client guidelines • Meet productivity and quality performance requirements • Utilizes company applications to enter charts coded in real-time • Solicits clarification from the physician regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation • Participates in team meetings and training as required • May participate in training or shadowing of other coders • Maintains current knowledge of the Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting

🎯 Requirements

• 5 years of experience coding a variety of Gen Surg procedures • CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA certifications • Epic/3M experience • Minimum 3+ years of surgery experience coding procedures including but not limited to: tonsillectomy, tumor excision, tracheostomy, lymph node removal, thyroid lobectomy, skin graft, laminotomy, facetectomy, foraminotomy, herniated disk repair, vertebral augmentation, spinal fixation, allograft, etc. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Understands medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology and disease processes • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPS and CPT coding principles and guidelines, reimbursement systems, federal, state and payor-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing.
