📋 Description

• Set the technical direction for Kraken Consumer applications • Own the architecture and delivery of customer-facing Rust backend services powering trading, payments, and crypto experiences • Make architectural decisions for durable systems • Take ambiguous, multi-quarter problems from initial validation through shipping and measurement • Break down complex problems so team members can work in parallel • Own features end-to-end, including customer experience, frontend impact, and the underlying product problem • Partner with product leadership to shape roadmaps and influence product decisions • Own product outcomes and metrics • Drive initiatives across Kraken trading infrastructure, platform, and other product teams • Build relationships and technical alignment across teams • Mentor mid-level engineers • Review designs before implementation • Unblock team members and establish reusable engineering patterns and standards • Use AI to amplify engineering scope and speed, orchestrating and validating implementations

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience • Deep Rust proficiency across network services, asynchronous code, and distributed systems design • Experience with RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven architectures • Track record of owning production systems and making architectural decisions • Product engineering experience from problem through implementation, launch, and user impact • Experience demonstrating impact through mentoring, design review, technical writing, or setting standards • Experience driving work spanning teams or organizations • Meaningful use of AI for coding, understanding unfamiliar codebases, crossing technical boundaries, and validating implementations • Ownership mindset and ability to work across backend/frontend boundaries • Full-stack experience including React/TypeScript or other frontend frameworks is a nice to have • Cryptocurrency or blockchain domain knowledge is a nice to have • Experience building and scaling consumer-focused products is a nice to have • Experience introducing AI tooling or workflows to an engineering team is a nice to have
