Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) is an independent non-profit organization comprised of human rights lawyers and jurists working in fragile and conflict-affected areas. The organization focuses on advocacy, strategic litigation, and legal aid to empower individuals affected by human rights violations and support accountability and rule of law across various crises globally. LAW engages in transformative justice initiatives, particularly in situations involving gender equality and sexual violence, while providing technical assistance to local legal institutions and organizations.

📋 Description

• Research questions of PIL, ICL and IHRL, particularly linked to sexual and gender-based crimes and violations of women’s and girls’ rights • Provide research and background inputs for public reports, policy briefs, and evidence-based advocacy and policy outputs • Assist with high-level advocacy strategies and engagements at the HRC, UNGA, ASP, and related forums • Assist with logistics and content preparation for side events, briefings, and advocacy meetings • Draft and edit legal information for victims and survivors concerning legal proceedings affecting them • Support coordination and follow-up for stakeholder engagements with Member States and accountability actors • Monitor international law and policy developments, including HRC and UNGA outcomes • Adapt training materials on credible documentation of crimes and human rights violations, focusing on sexual and gender-based crimes • Provide note-keeping and documentation support during capacity-building sessions • Assist with partner coordination documentation, note-taking, and knowledge management • Compile and synthesize information to strengthen joint advocacy and network engagement • Support drafting and formatting funding proposals and concept notes • Support LAW in implementing protection interventions for clients, as directed

🎯 Requirements

• Law student enrolled in an LLM or final year of an undergraduate law course, or recent law graduate • Able to commit full-time for three to six months • Background knowledge in International Law, specifically International Human Rights Law (IHRL) or International Criminal Law (ICL), is essential • Fluency in English is essential • Strong desk research and drafting skills • Attention to detail and analytical ability • Ability to work independently in a remote setting • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Prior professional or volunteer experience in research, human rights initiatives, or non-profit work is preferred • Prior experience with the Afghanistan context is desirable • Part-time option requires minimum 40% FTE or 15 hours per week for at least one law school semester • Applications must include a CV and motivation letter of no more than one page
