• Lead the definition and implementation of a comprehensive Risk Strategy and Governance Framework across Mashreq Bank • Assist the Group CRO in executing effective risk governance • Manage Country Risk Officers across Mashreq Bank’s international branches • Guide and manage a geographically distributed team and ensure staff development and engagement • Lead projects and activities aligned with Risk Management and Mashreq Bank objectives • Resolve differing or conflicting strategic views on risk management and departmental direction • Interpret and provide guidance on central bank regulations and pronouncements • Guide specialized risk functions and international locations in maintaining relevant risk governance • Own key risk policies, including the Group Risk Management Framework, International Risk Management Framework, Strategic Risk Management Framework, and Policy of Risk Policy Management • Provide strategic inputs to LF MBO reports and RISE metrics • Lead AI governance and adoption of AI use cases from RMG • Oversee regulatory compliance and assurance for home- and host-country regulators within RMG • Monitor compliance with CBUAE regulations, standards, and guidance • Maintain the regulatory compliance repository, risk management policies calendar, and risk policy vault • Implement and monitor CBUAE CRMS and Recovery Plan regulations within RMG • Serve as secretary and main point of contact for the Group Risk Committee • Support the Board Risk Compliance & ESG Committee • Facilitate a consistent risk governance framework across Mashreq Bank locations • Centrally manage enterprise-wide and other risk policies, including their definition and rollout • Ensure emerging regulations and risks are interpreted, understood, and communicated • Implement the Group Risk Committee charter and terms of reference • Coordinate and conduct board-level risk committees with the Group Company Secretary • Run Assurance forums for RMG and International Risk Forums • Lead risk management efforts in all Mashreq international branches • Engage with bank leadership, the CEO, non-executive directors, central bank regulators, and external consultants • Resolve issues involving complex IT infrastructure and architecture and multifaceted data-sourcing problems • Lead a critical risk management and regulatory reporting function • Make decisions affecting domestic and international audit and regulatory compliance, capital and operating expenditure, and development of 10 staff
• Undergraduate degree in Finance, Risk, Economics or another related field • 15+ years of progressive, multi-discipline risk management experience within the banking sector • Deep understanding of risk management concepts and methodologies gained through development and practical application of risk policy/frameworks • Demonstrated capability to apply risk management concepts, analysis and support to strategic decision-making processes • Demonstrable people and managerial leadership experience in a matrixed and multi-jurisdictional organization • Ability to lead direct and cross-functional teams • Outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills, personal credibility and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, particularly senior colleagues • Good negotiation skills to resolve conflicts and ensure clear progress • Postgraduate or professional qualification in risk management or finance such as CFA, FRM, or PRM (desirable) • Experience developing and implementing an RSG Framework in a multi-jurisdictional and matrixed organization (desirable) • Understanding and experience of BCBS frameworks, particularly those relating to risk and capital (desirable) • Understanding of international best practices for governance in international branches (desirable)
