📋 Description

• Own and evolve Mailtrap's production infrastructure, a multi-region AWS platform supporting high-volume email sending and testing • Keep infrastructure reliable, secure, and cost-efficient • Plan and execute a partial migration of selected workloads from AWS to rented bare-metal/colocation infrastructure • Decide which workloads move and which remain on AWS • Design the target bare-metal platform, likely using Kubernetes or a similar orchestrator • Own the migration end to end, from business case through cutover • Operate and evolve AWS multi-account and multi-region infrastructure • Maintain Terraform modules and workspaces • Ensure safe infrastructure changes across network, storage, and services with zero-downtime deployments • Operate ECS services, blue/green deployments, and Docker image pipelines • Manage reliability through CloudWatch, PagerDuty, Sentry, capacity planning, and cost tagging • Maintain security baselines using IAM, SSM secrets, and Cloudflare edge rules • Partner with engineers on release automation and production readiness • Maintain AWS and rented bare-metal infrastructure as one operable hybrid platform • Build the business and technical case for workloads moving off AWS versus remaining • Design the bare-metal/colo landing zone covering compute, network, storage, observability, and secrets • Produce migration waves, dependency maps, and cutover/rollback plans • Establish hybrid connectivity and dual-run periods, shifting traffic safely • Replace or re-home managed services where beneficial • Coordinate colocation providers, vendors, timelines, and engineering teams; report progress and risk

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of senior DevOps/platform experience with production ownership • Deep AWS knowledge, including VPC, ECS, IAM, RDS/ElastiCache or equivalents, and networking • Terraform at scale, including modules and remote state/Terraform Cloud • CI/CD with GitHub Actions, including automated production deployments such as blue/green deployments • Docker container experience and ability to operate services on ECS or Kubernetes • Strong Linux networking knowledge, including DNS, TLS, load balancing, firewalls, VPN, and hybrid networking • Proven experience planning and executing migrations to on-premises, colocation, or private cloud infrastructure • Ability to own multi-quarter infrastructure initiatives involving TCO, design, vendors, cutover, and rollback • Ability to automate operational tasks with shell and/or Python • Fluent spoken and written English • Strongly preferred: colocation/bare-metal operations, IPAM/NetBox, Ansible, Packer or equivalent, HAProxy/Nginx • Strongly preferred: replacing managed AWS services with self-hosted Postgres HA, Redis/Valkey, Kafka, and OpenSearch • Strongly preferred: email infrastructure including MTA, SMTP, IP reputation, DKIM/SPF/DMARC, with Halon or similar • Strongly preferred: Cloudflare DNS/WAF/Access • Strongly preferred: observability beyond CloudWatch, such as Prometheus/Grafana/Loki • Strongly preferred: multi-region SaaS or EU data residency experience • Strongly preferred: cost-driven architecture/FinOps mindset • Plus: GCP, Ruby or Go, and AWS certificates
