📋 Description

• Build and evolve the Core Commerce Services platform • Create scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities from technical discovery and design through implementation and production • Define APIs, domain boundaries and integration patterns • Make pragmatic decisions regarding scalability, reliability, security, observability and long-term maintainability • Align technical decisions and integration contracts across Checkout, Payment and dependent teams • Maintain clear ownership boundaries • Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews and technical feedback • Raise engineering standards across the team • Partner with Product to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions • Establish foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce and emerging channels

🎯 Requirements

• Strong Java and backend engineering expertise • Experience designing and building backend services, platforms and large-scale distributed systems • Hands-on contribution to production code • Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent senior technical leadership • Strong system design and architecture capabilities • Ability to take significant technical ownership with a high level of autonomy • Comfort working in a greenfield / 0-to-1 environment • Ability to explore options, evaluate trade-offs and make pragmatic technical decisions • Strong track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence • Ability to create alignment across engineering domains • Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce or marketplaces is a valuable plus, not a requirement
