• Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for BESS engineering scopes, providing guidance and technical direction to project teams. • Lead and manage the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements. • Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses to recommend optimal BESS configurations and future augmentation provisions. • Serve as a senior technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes on assigned projects. • Manage Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to ensure scope clarity and timely delivery. • Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local fire departments/ AHJ’s. • Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components to support procurement activities. • Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews. • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure , install, and commission BESS systems. • Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability. • Provide engineering support during construction, including field issue resolution, design clarifications, and minor redesigns. • Provide engineering support for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization. • Ability to mentor junior engineers and project teams, providing guidance, training and lessons learned on BESS design principles and practices. • Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements. • Support business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations. • Represent SOLV Engineering in customer and client meetings. • Participate in regular team meetings/ calls. • Travel as required to support project execution. • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred. • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems. • Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems) , and grid interconnection equipment. • Knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software. • Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD, etc.) and simulation tools. • Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards). • Strong understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547). • Strong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855). • Understanding of communication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850). • Project management experience including budgeting , scheduling , and risk management. • Strong understanding of EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners. • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision , manage multiple projects , adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines. • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Bluebeam, with ability to maintain trackers, logs, schedules, and reports.
