📋 Description

• Lead the strategy, organization, and execution for 1Password’s core service and development platforms • Report to the CTO • Build secure, reliable, and scalable foundations enabling teams to deliver, operate, and own with autonomy • Own operations, drive delivery, and develop a high-performing team • Evolve and execute the Platform Engineering vision, strategy, objectives, and roadmaps • Lead multi-year changes to engineering architecture and operating model • Build shared platforms, supported paths, and common practices improving reliability, security, developer effectiveness, and scalability • Lead technology-adjacent strategic initiatives from innovation through implementation and iterative improvement • Design and evolve the organization, ownership model, and operating mechanisms • Establish accountability for directly operated platforms and services • Advance engineering standards, operational excellence, and safe, measurable Agentic Engineering practices • Establish platforms, controls, and evidence supporting accountable adoption of engineering practices • Establish quantifiable organizational outcomes and operating mechanisms tracking progress, quality, adoption, operational health, and business impact • Build cross-functional relationships and represent the technical organization in senior leadership meetings • Provide updates on strategic initiatives, operational execution, and industry trends • Build and lead a high-performing team through mentoring, coaching, talent evaluation, and succession planning • Mentor and sponsor technology leaders across 1Password • Drive high-performance culture, psychological safety, inclusivity, ownership, agility, and employee experience • Own investment and capacity strategy with Finance and allocate resources against highest-value outcomes

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering • At least 7 years in a leadership role • Preferably experience building and operating at the intersections of IaaS, SaaS, and the cybersecurity industry • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related fields; or proven equivalent work experience • Proven track record establishing durable, full-lifecycle ownership for critical platforms and services • Proven ability delivering and operating cost-effective mission-critical infrastructure and platform systems • Strong business and technical acumen in systems and software engineering • Ability to lead an organization and culture delivering best practices and innovation • Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills • Extensive experience in operational excellence, process and system optimization, scalability, and performance metrics • Ability to collaborate with C-suite leaders and cross-functional teams • Outstanding communication skills • Proven expertise leading and sustaining multi-year transformational initiatives • Proven experience building, developing, and scaling high-performing teams • Must already be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada; no work authorization, relocation assistance, or visa sponsorship provided • Successful applicants must complete a background check
