📋 Description

• Review assigned case files before scheduled QME depositions • Assess case status, medical-legal issues, and litigation posture • Evaluate and discuss settlement or stipulation opportunities with adjusters or clients • Communicate with attorneys, adjusters, and opposing counsel regarding resolution options • Document case review findings and recommendations in the case management system • Review claim history, medical treatment records, and QME/AME reports • Analyze reports for inconsistencies, gaps, causation issues, apportionment concerns, and clarification needs • Identify disputed issues and develop deposition objectives, strategy, and questions • Contact clients regarding current medical status, symptoms, treatment, and case progression • Conduct applicant-set and defense-set QME depositions in person or remotely • Question QMEs and make appropriate objections on the record • Take detailed deposition notes and manage exhibits • Make real-time strategic decisions regarding questioning • Coordinate post-deposition follow-up tasks • Maintain accurate case files, deposition logs, and status reports • Communicate proactively with internal team members about case status and deposition outcomes • Perform other litigation duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree • Active license to practice law in California • Active member of the State Bar of California • 1+ years of experience litigating workers' compensation cases, including taking QME/AME depositions, strongly preferred • Working knowledge of California workers' compensation procedures, QME processes, and deposition practice, or willingness to learn quickly • Prior experience as an associate attorney in a workers' compensation defense or applicant firm is a plus • Strong analytical skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Highly organized with strong attention to detail • Ability to manage multiple deposition schedules simultaneously • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet firm deadlines • Proficiency with case management software, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), and e-filing/e-service systems • Professional demeanor and courtroom-appropriate presence • Ability to accommodate occasional early morning, evening, or extended deposition hours
