• Lead development and implementation of strategies to accelerate New York’s clean energy transition in electric and transportation sectors • Meet short- and long-term policy objectives across legislative, administrative, and regulatory efforts • Work with member companies to develop policy positions and reach consensus on key issues • Manage lobbyist and consultant relationships and their engagement in legislative matters and communications strategies • Organize member opportunities for direct decision-maker engagement, including lobby days, legislator and candidate education, earned media, and participation in legislative, regulatory, and administrative processes • Develop and maintain relationships with coalition partners, allies, and key legislative and administrative staff • Coordinate advocacy efforts with coalition allies in support of clean energy goals • Create reports, presentations, fact sheets, and other written and visual advocacy materials • Draft comments and testimony and deliver verbal presentations • Work with the communications team to identify earned media opportunities • Draft press statements, conduct media interviews, write blog posts, participate in webinars, and showcase advanced energy • Travel up to 30% for advocacy days, stakeholder meetings, communications outreach, and other organizational efforts • Report to the Northeast Managing Director • Assist the Managing Director with strategy, programs, and initiatives advancing advanced energy markets in the Northeast
• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, engineering or arts and sciences preferred, or comparable experience • Master’s degree in a relevant area is a plus • 7–15 years of professional experience in legislative policy development, campaign work, or organizing in the energy or transportation sector • Experience working with business leaders is a plus • Interest in energy and transportation issues • Understanding of the importance of policy advocacy to advance an organizational agenda • Entrepreneurial approach and flexible attitude • Ability to operate independently and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Ability to independently draft clear, comprehensive, and persuasive written documents for intended audiences • Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills • Strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative, and commitment to achieving goals • Ability to engage members, customers, and funders and sell Advanced Energy United and its value proposition • Must have a sense of humor and willingness to keep learning • Must be willing to travel • Residence in the U.S. required • Must reside in or around Albany, NY • Ability to meet stated physical requirements, with reasonable accommodations available
