📋 Description

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and connect it to critical, business-impacting projects • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle • Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes as a force multiplier • Own team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call efforts • Establish code review and design standards and advocate for them through writing and tech talks • Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example • Shape systems powering Affirm purchases after checkout, including orders, captures, refunds, and settlement • Drive technical strategy for reliable, highly available post-checkout platform systems and future product capabilities • Consolidate the internal platform behind Affirm’s post-checkout APIs, establish domain boundaries, migrate existing merchants, and enable future product launches

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale • Experience using languages such as Python or Kotlin • Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems • Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes • Ability to design services with clear API boundaries, strong reliability, consistency, idempotency, and failure-mode handling • Experience in payments, commerce, ledger, or another financially sensitive domain is ideal • Experience delivering major features or system components, or deprecating existing functionality, through technical and execution plans • Ability to write high-quality, understandable, reusable code • Ability to work from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture • Demonstrated growth and impact through gathering and iterating on peer and cross-functional feedback • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
