📋 Description

• Provide effective legal representation by retaining and supervising outside counsel handling complex litigation involving the corporation and/or its insureds • Perform basic initial coverage review • Draft Reservation of Rights letters on certain files • Provide legal advice to business partners as needed • Report to the Senior Manager, Legal • Manage caseload to obtain successful outcomes • Proactively manage outside counsel and hold counsel accountable to company requirements • Implement litigation strategies to drive files toward successful resolution • Analyze and develop defense strategy throughout the file lifecycle • Adhere to litigation best practices, including strategy development, motion practice and trial preparation • Escalate and report on files as required • Participate in meetings and communications with management and attorney team members regarding file handling, strategy, reserving practices, risk management, process adherence and performance • Present files to senior leadership • Actively manage the file cycle, including timely file closing • Implement reserving practices, recognize reserve deficiencies, make timely adjustments and obtain authority when appropriate • Recognize coverage issues, draft Reservation of Rights letters, incorporate coverage analysis into case evaluations and engage Coverage partners as appropriate

🎯 Requirements

• Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service • Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses • Demonstrated litigation experience • Solid knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice • Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law • Admitted to the state bar in the state where they are located, or required bar admission within the specified post-hire timeline • Juris Doctor • Must take and pass an adjuster license exam within 6 months of hire • Prior experience with external counsel management a plus • Experience with first- and third-party bad faith litigation in western U.S. states a plus • Up to 50% travel • Offer contingent on applicable background checks • Offer contingent on signing a non-disclosure agreement • Sponsorship will not be considered unless specified in the posting
