• Provide engineering support for lifecycle management of medical devices and clinical systems across VA healthcare facilities • Evaluate, test, and analyze medical equipment performance for safety, reliability, and regulatory and VA standards compliance • Support planning, specification development, and technical evaluation for acquisition of medical equipment and systems • Assist with installation planning, commissioning, and acceptance testing • Provide advanced technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for equipment failures and system integration issues • Support integration of medical equipment with hospital networks and clinical information systems • Collaborate with biomedical technicians, IT personnel, clinicians, and vendors to resolve issues and optimize equipment performance • Assist in developing and reviewing maintenance strategies, service contracts, and lifecycle replacement plans • Ensure compliance with FDA, Joint Commission, radiation safety, and VA requirements • Support cybersecurity and risk management initiatives for network-connected medical devices • Maintain documentation of engineering analyses, equipment evaluations, and technical recommendations • Assist VA Biomedical Engineering leadership with troubleshooting, technology assessments, risk management, regulatory compliance, and modernization initiatives
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Certification as a Clinical Engineer (CCE) • Minimum of three years of hospital or healthcare experience maintaining medical equipment or managing a hospital medical equipment program • Knowledge of computer-based medical systems, networking protocols, and information security as applied to medical technology within VHA • Ability to conduct a compliant medical equipment management program • Ability to develop continuing education curricula addressing safe and effective use of medical technology • Ability to manage medical device recalls and safety alerts, including hazard investigations, SMDA, and Joint Commission requirements • Ability to conduct capital asset and infrastructure planning for complex medical equipment • Ability to function as a biomedical engineering subject matter expert supporting specialized clinical technology, service, system administration, training, quality assurance, and lifecycle management • Ability to advise clinical and administrative staff on medical technology viability, suitability, compatibility, and safety • Ability to apply project management principles to medical equipment and health information technology deployment • Skill in communicating and collaborating with technical and professional stakeholders at various organizational levels • Understanding of regulatory agency requirements, industry regulatory requirements, and International Organization for Standardization standards • Experience with clinical system interfaces, EHRs, HL7, FHIR, and DICOM (optional)
