📋 Description

• Design and evolve microcontroller firmware for status indication, physical audio bypass relays, and vehicle detection signal routing • Build and harden the host application on edge compute nodes • Manage the full-duplex, multi-process audio pipeline connecting drive-thru hardware to the cloud backend in real time • Own the serial protocol and health-monitoring layer between the microcontroller and host • Implement failure detection, exponential-backoff recovery, and state persistence across restarts • Debug issues spanning audio drivers, USB serial, relays, and third-party POS integrations • Improve deployment, monitoring, and remote management of production device fleets • Manage LaunchAgent/systemd deployment, telemetry, remote access, and safe over-the-air updates • Partner with product and operations to translate drive-thru and legacy hardware constraints into robust technical solutions

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful time in embedded systems, firmware, or hardware-adjacent software • Comfort in C++ for resource-constrained microcontrollers • Strong general-purpose backend skills in Python or other modern languages • Experience designing for reliability in real-time or latency-sensitive systems, especially unattended field systems • Practical experience with serial/USB protocols, audio I/O, or similar low-level hardware interfaces • Ability to operate with ambiguity and drive loosely defined hardware/software problems to well-architected solutions • Judgment about when to build for scale versus move fast • Communication skills to explain reasoning and bring others along • Bonus: experience with audio processing/DSP, echo cancellation, remote fleet management, or point-of-sale/legacy hardware integrations
