⢠Follow regulatory guidelines in reporting and sequencing ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, HCPCS Level II, and CPT codes ⢠Generate coding queries to physicians to clarify conflicting or ambiguous patient information ⢠Enter ABS data accurately, including surgeon name, procedure date, discharge disposition, admit diagnosis, and POA status ⢠Meet bill drop dates and manage accounts receivable for pending, old, or problematic accounts ⢠Report principal and secondary diagnoses according to AHA Coding Clinic and ICD-10-CM guidelines ⢠Manage NCCI and OPPS edits and append modifiers when appropriate ⢠Notify the Business Office and ancillary departments when charges should be added or removed ⢠Identify recurring charge issues and report them to the supervisor ⢠Apply diagnosis and procedural codes to produce accurate DRG/APC assignments ⢠Accurately code and report procedure codes according to applicable coding and payer guidelines ⢠Submit productive/non-productive variation reports within the established timeframe
⢠High School Diploma or GED equivalent ⢠CCS or CPC certification ⢠Eligibility to work in the United States and meet Virginia state employment requirements ⢠Accredited Coding Program preferred ⢠Preferred certifications: CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, COC, CIC, CPC-A ⢠Three years of coding experience preferred ⢠Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or related service-oriented environment preferred ⢠Good written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills ⢠Competency using computer applications, grouper software, Medicare edits, and coding and abstracting software and hardware ⢠Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes ⢠Analytical ability to interpret clinical data across specialties for appropriate code assignment ⢠Proficiency in abstracting chart data into a computer module ⢠Ability to work independently, eagerness to learn, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills ⢠High ethical standards due to confidential patient information
