📋 Description

• Lead and scale Ballotpedia’s Operations Department • Drive strategic operations and partner with leadership across the organization • Design and implement hiring processes • Guide salary negotiations • Partner with managers on staff performance and team development • Oversee annual performance reviews and manager training programs • Integrate Ballotpedia’s core values throughout the employee life cycle • Review benefits structures, recommend updates, and oversee benefits administration • Own Ballotpedia’s compensation philosophy and structure • Manage payroll systems and ensure tax and regulatory requirements are met • Oversee contract labor acquisition, contractor records, and contractor metrics • Develop financial dashboards tracking key metrics • Produce monthly financial reports and translate data into actionable insights • Monitor financial health and flag risks or opportunities • Build financial models for ROI evaluation of expansion initiatives and strategic investments • Lead annual budget development • Develop rolling cash-flow forecasts and scenario models for reserve strategy and financial decisions • Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, and financial compliance • Maintain state and federal compliance and identify legal and regulatory requirements • Maintain workers’ compensation policies and required registrations or insurance • Coordinate FMLA, ADA, and other compliance processes • Manage legal claims and lawsuits and coordinate with outside counsel • Maintain organizational insurance policies and recommend coverage adjustments • Mentor, coach, and develop Operations personnel • Schedule and facilitate departmental meetings and oversee annual and quarterly goals • Maintain organizational systems and tools and manage platform access and permissions • Supervise Board meeting planning and coordinate in-person team meetings

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in operations, finance, HR, or a related field in a nonprofit, mission-driven, or fast-growing organization • Deep commitment to Ballotpedia's mission and ability to exemplify organizational values • Expertise in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis • Strong understanding of or experience in human resources, talent management, and organizational development • Knowledge of nonprofit compliance, employment law, and risk management • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and build alignment across teams • Strategic thinking, analytical rigor, practical problem-solving, and proactive decision-making • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams in a remote environment • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to navigate change in a fast-moving nonprofit environment • Experience with Google Suite, Slack, and project management tools • Must have a computer with Internet access • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; employment is subject to E-Verify • Résumé and cover letter required for application • Current address must be included in either the résumé or cover letter
