Basalt also assembles cited medical-necessity evidence for prior authorizations, concurrent reviews, and appeals, reducing manual searching and speeding decision and payment workflows. The platform is positioned as an enterprise SaaS used by post-acute and behavioral-health intake teams, with clinicians retaining final decision authority.

📋 Description

• Own the intelligence layer of the platform, including LLM orchestration, retrieval pipelines, and evaluation frameworks • Improve LangGraph orchestration for complex clinical workflows • Build retrieval pipelines to search patient records using embeddings and vector similarity • Set up Langfuse/LangSmith tracing to debug hallucinations in summarization chains • Fine-tune models on medical terminology or clinical note structure • Evaluate Gemini, Claude, and GPT for healthcare tasks • Design reliable and responsible pipelines that turn unstructured clinical documents into searchable vectors • Write TypeScript and Python services connecting the AI systems • Ship work to production in a small, remote-first, async-friendly team

🎯 Requirements

• Hands-on LLM experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google APIs • Understanding of context windows and temperature • Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar orchestration tools • Experience chaining calls, handling failures, and managing state • Experience with Langfuse, LangSmith, or Phoenix • Strong experience with agentic code authoring systems such as Claude, Codex, Gemini, Copilot, or similar • Retrieval/RAG experience with Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, or Vertex AI Matching Engine • Understanding of chunking strategies, embedding models, and reranking • Ability to write Python for ML pipelines and TypeScript for services • Fine-tuning experience with LoRA, PEFT, or full fine-tunes (bonus) • Healthcare/FHIR/clinical data background (bonus) • Experience with Gemini models and Vertex AI (bonus) • Evaluation frameworks such as RAGAS, custom evals, or human-in-the-loop (bonus) • Experience making embeddings work on messy, real-world data (bonus) • Already authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
