📋 Description

• Serve as subject matter expert for instrumentation and controls design for gas plants, reciprocating engines, gas turbines, and associated balance of plant systems and equipment • Develop and review instrumentation and controls designs and design controls for balance of plant systems • Collaborate with OEMs, owners, internal project teams, utilities, vendors, and third-party engineering firms • Develop metrics and objectives related to equipment protection and controls engineering obligations • Understand client design criteria, intent, design trends, philosophy, and gas generation plant criteria • Travel to client offices and project sites as required; travel increases during construction and commissioning • Support root cause analysis for engineering and instrumentation and controls items • Verify equipment controls and protection, safety standards, Management of Change, and compliance with industry standards • Verify design basis for power block instrumentation and controls through commissioning processes and documentation • Integrate instrumentation and controls with electrical design and commissioning business units • Review electrical interface designs for balance of plant equipment and plant control system integration • Evaluate new technologies and best practices to add project value • Create and maintain design basis document libraries • Review owner, contractor, company, supplier, and subcontract scopes for completeness and interface gaps • Support constructability reviews of power block layouts, modular and skid-mounted equipment, and cable/conduit systems • Support onsite startup, first fire, synchronization, performance testing, and commissioning requirements • Act as escalation point for instrumentation and controls commissioning issues • Review design, installation, commissioning, redundancy, winterization, loop diagrams, control narratives, and logic • Own controller communication protocols and interface implementation, including DCS and OEM controllers • Verify data historian configuration and available data points • Mentor junior engineers and support internal instrumentation and controls standards and practices • Develop instrumentation and controls plans for proposals incorporating redundancy, reliability, and cost efficiency • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle and review contract and subcontract implications • Travel up to 25% pre-construction and 70% during construction, subject to project needs

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in instrumentation and controls design for industrial projects, with strong preference for power generation • 5+ years experience with instrumentation/controls/communications specification, procurement, install, and commissioning • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related field, from an ABET-accredited college required, or relevant equivalent industry experience • Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred but not required • Knowledge of reciprocating engine and gas turbine equipment and associated balance of plant equipment and applications • Knowledge of MODBUS, Profi-Bus, Foundation Field-Bus, and other communication protocols and integration • Familiarity with instrumentation and controls programming and commissioning tools for BOP equipment • Familiarity with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) • Familiarity with Emissions Control Systems, primarily Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) • Familiarity with engineering standards/best practices related to power generation • Ability to influence and persuade groups toward common objectives • Effective oral, written, listening, and presentation communication skills
