• Own architectural coherence for AI across BMO's cloud and workspace estates, spanning AWS, Azure, Microsoft 365, and SaaS AI surfaces • Provide singular architectural oversight across the AI Engineering function and Cloud AI and Workspace Engineering • Serve as standing architectural authority to the Microsoft AI Council • Prepare cross-organizational architecture decisions for Council ratification and escalate unresolved matters to Engineering leadership and Enterprise Architecture • Define and maintain the enterprise target AI architecture, reference architectures, standards, and platform guardrails • Set architectural direction across Directors, squads, Security, DevOps, and Data Engineering • Resolve competing approaches into a coherent architecture • Review major AI initiative designs for coherence, scalability, security, cost, residency, Responsible AI, and regulatory fit • Represent major AI initiatives at the Architecture Review Board • Own architectural coherence of BMO's Microsoft AI surface, including Copilot, Copilot Studio, Fabric Copilot, Microsoft Agent 365, the Three-Zone citizen governance framework, and AI Registry federation • Lead assessment of emerging AI capabilities, foundation models, and architectural approaches • Partner with AI Platform & Fabrics to align Gateway, Policy Engine, Identity Fabric, Registry, Guardrails, and Observability with the target architecture • Partner with AI Developer Experience and Domain Solution Architects to ensure domain patterns conform to the target architecture • Mentor architects and principal engineers and grow architectural capability and consistency • Establish and steward transition architecture for AI-incubated, bank-wide-eligible platforms as they mature toward enterprise ownership
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline (Master's preferred) • 10+ years in software engineering, solution architecture, and enterprise architecture • Substantial experience at a principal/senior architect level setting direction across multiple teams • 3+ years focused on AI/ML and GenAI architecture • Hands-on exposure to production GenAI systems, including RAG, agentic workflows, model serving, and guardrails • Experience holding cross-team or cross-organizational architectural authority • Experience architecting AI in a regulated industry; financial services strongly preferred • Working understanding of model-risk management and regulatory expectations, including OSFI, OCC, or equivalent • Deep AI/ML and GenAI solution architecture knowledge: RAG, agentic frameworks, prompt patterns, fine-tuning, foundation models, embeddings, and vector stores • Strong AI platform architecture knowledge, including AI gateways, policy-as-code/authorization, workload identity, zero-trust, guardrails, and AI observability • Multi-cloud architecture experience across AWS and Azure • Experience with Microsoft AI surfaces including M365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Fabric, and Agent 365 • Cloud security and IAM applied to AI workloads • Integration architecture using APIs, event-driven patterns, and data services • Working knowledge of MLOps/LLMOps and CI/CD • Sufficient hands-on fluency, with Python preferred, to prototype and evaluate approaches • Deep grounding in Responsible AI, AI/data governance, privacy, and evaluation/guardrail design • Experience embedding regulatory and model-risk evidence requirements into architecture • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills • Critical thinking, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills • Self-directed and comfortable operating with broad mandate and ambiguity • Able to work under tight timelines on complex, high-stakes decisions
