📋 Description

• Own and pioneer the Caraway Promise, a testing-obsessed, transparency-first product safety approach • Build Caraway's product safety and compliance program across cookware, bakeware, small appliances, food contact materials, textiles, and packaging • Define frameworks, documentation standards, testing protocols, regulatory calendars, and governance processes • Integrate compliance across product development, supplier onboarding, market placement, monitoring, and end-of-life • Monitor US federal, state, and international regulatory compliance and lead regulatory change management • Lead product component mapping, material disclosure, and supply chain material traceability • Design and manage third-party testing strategy, lab relationships, testing scope, frequency, and sequencing • Own claims substantiation through clinical, laboratory, and comparative studies • Partner with Marketing and Customer Research on legally defensible product claims and consumer messaging • Conduct supply chain compliance diligence, social compliance audits, material certifications, supplier CAPAs, and performance reporting • Embed material and safety standards into manufacturing quality plans in China • Serve as internal product safety and science subject matter expert and build internal education • Act as primary compliance contact for retailers, certifying bodies, and regulatory agencies • Lead product incident investigations, root cause analysis, CAPAs, consumer complaint response, product withdrawals, and CPSC recalls • Report to the Director, Product Development

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of product safety, regulatory compliance, or quality assurance experience in consumer goods • At least 5 years focused on food contact materials, cookware, kitchen appliances, or closely adjacent hard-goods categories • Demonstrated ownership across the full compliance lifecycle • Deep working knowledge of FDA 21 CFR, LFGB Chapters 30/31, EU Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, REACH, CA Prop 65, CA AB 1200, FSC, NSF, and Colorado PFAS Chemicals Consumer Protection Act • Familiarity with UK REACH and other international frameworks • Background in chemistry, materials science, or applied laboratory and clinical research • Experience designing and running studies to substantiate product safety or performance claims • Experience managing third-party lab relationships in Asia, particularly China • Hands-on experience with BSCI and Sedex/SMETA social compliance audits • Familiarity with OEKO-TEX Standard 100, FSC, GRS, and GOTS • Experience managing CAPA processes and building supplier performance scorecards • Experience with migration testing, heavy metals screening, PFAS/PFOA screening, sensory evaluation, and electrical safety standards UL, ETL, and IEC 60335 • Familiarity with FTC Green Guides, CPSC Section 15(b) reporting, product recall mechanics, and CPSC Fast Track Recall Program • Ability to build component maps and material traceability documentation • Strong cross-functional communication and risk management skills • Experience building compliance programs in an environment with limited existing infrastructure • Ability to travel internationally to Asia up to 35–40% annually • Experience working with facilities in China required • Mandarin proficiency is a bonus; effectiveness working through translation with Mandarin-speaking contacts required at minimum • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field • Advanced degree or professional certification is a plus • Small appliance safety standards and NRTL certification experience preferred/plus • Familiarity with retailer compliance and vendor onboarding requirements
