📋 Description

• Review documentation in inpatient and/or IVR medical records • Accurately and completely assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic and ICD-10-PCS/CPT-4 HCPCS procedural codes to the greatest specificity • Assign the most accurate DRG/APC when appropriate • Abstract demographic and coding information accurately and completely • Code and abstract medical records with a minimum of 95% accuracy • Abstract required patient demographic data into the EMR • Meet productivity standards • Query providers to clarify codes when needed • Resolve coding edits and reminders within 1–2 business days • Complete and route problem accounts, ready-to-code, high-dollar and other accounts daily • Complete assigned work by goal date • Assist with unassigned or backlogged accounts • Mentor new coders • Clean up or escalate missing documentation and other work queues • Assist with observation, same-day surgery, outpatient and emergency coding when proficient and assigned • Perform other duties as assigned • Comply with WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct

🎯 Requirements

• High School Education or GED or equivalent • Completed anatomy and physiology course(s) • Minimum 3 years of acute care inpatient and/or IVR coding experience • Demonstrated maintenance of 95% or higher accuracy in abstracting, code and DRG assignment while meeting productivity requirements in previous roles • Ability to work in a remote environment • Computer/data entry experience • Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team • Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word • Preferred certifications: Cert Coding Spec, Cert Prof Coder, Cert Prof Coder - Hospital OP, Reg Health Information Admin, Reg Health Information Tech, AAPC
