• Provide mineral processing design, analysis, and engineering services to Operations • Perform process optimization studies to decrease cost and improve yield, recovery, and quality • Complete process work supporting Class I–III project scope, design, and estimates, including flowsheets, material balances, equipment testing, selection, sizing, and process control • Lead Class I estimates when requested • Oversee development of Sequences of Operations with Controls and Automation Engineers and engineering firms on P&IDs • Work with outside consulting engineering firms on projects • Manage project start-up and commissioning for major capital projects • Lead startup teams, conduct meetings, and issue startup updates and reports • Participate in project update, management review, and capital project review meetings • Develop and provide technical training to plant and staff personnel • Provide process analyses for Covia OEM projects and participate in related meetings • Work on interdepartmental teams across Project Management, Controls and Automation Engineering, R&D, Geology & Mine Planning, Environmental Affairs, Safety & Health, Purchasing, Operations, and Sales • Maintain liaison with internal and external stakeholders and act independently on technical project matters • Manage and/or work on projects involving unique or controversial technical problems affecting Covia objectives • Conduct plant process investigations and develop solutions to increase throughput, decrease cost, improve yield, improve quality, and improve productivity • Direct and conduct testing on new and experimental process equipment and methods • Provide technical support to plants through process studies, training, and continuous improvement implementation • Run plant-feed samples through the CFS for audit comparison and mine-planning reconciliation evaluations • Oversee updates of plant equipment lists, flowsheets, and material balances • Issue detailed reports according to process policies and procedures • Participate in development and updates of Engineering Standards • Ensure Engineering Standards are consistently and uniformly applied • Submit weekly activity reports, project kickoff materials, startup updates, project memos, reports, and source files • Travel 40–50% as required to initiate, advance, and complete projects • Maintain high engineering standards and follow departmental policies and procedures • Monitor technical developments in metallurgical and minerals processing fields • Maintain and develop personal-computer engineering skills • Perform other duties as assigned
• Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in an Engineering discipline • Minimum of 5 years of engineering or equivalent professional experience • Preference given to candidates with experience in mineral processing, bulk material handling systems, or heavy industry • Ability to travel 40–50% as required • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team • Commitment to company policies, procedures, rules, and safety requirements • Ability to maintain technical skills through available training • Knowledge of technical developments in metallurgical/minerals processing fields • Ability to use personal computers for engineering work • Ability to work interdepartmentally with Project Management, Controls and Automation Engineering, R&D, Geology & Mine Planning, Environmental Affairs, Safety & Health, Purchasing, Operations, and Sales
