📋 Description

• Collaborate with the Design Functional Team to maintain a high level of craft across Duck.ai, native apps, search, and other products • Prototype, specify, and implement product designs directly in the codebase • Partner with front-end engineers as a peer to ensure shipped execution meets design quality standards • Help close the gap between intended designs and shipped products • Help grow and shape DuckDuckGo’s design engineering role and discipline as its second Design Engineer • Identify and solve product problems across current offerings • Pioneer privacy-focused solutions as DuckDuckGo builds out the privacy layer for the Internet • Explore and test concepts that improve user experience and broaden audience appeal • Autonomously lead high-impact projects scaling across millions of users • Assess ambiguous problems, propose high-impact solutions, and execute against success criteria • Contribute to product-related design decisions across projects • Collaborate transparently with cross-functional stakeholders and contributors

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in product design and/or design engineering roles • 2+ years in senior-level design positions at significant global consumer brands • Ability to communicate visual and interaction recommendations with high-quality mockups, prototypes, and rationale • Comfortable partnering with engineers as a peer, reasoning about decisions in PR reviews, and contributing code • Experience defining requirements and developing tools to accelerate design and engineering workflows • Experience maintaining quality and consistency of design systems across design and code • Ability to prototype in code to a production standard • Understanding of semantic markup and accessibility • Fluency in motion and interaction implementation, including easing curves, spring physics, and interruptible transitions • Experience structuring design systems using token layering and primitive versus semantic naming • Proficiency managing projects from proposal through execution and release • Experience applying agentic solutions to project management and design execution workflows • Ability to write creative briefs defining project goals, rationale, and success metrics • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research and experimentation • Ability to instrument work for measurement • Ability to take initiative and carry ideas forward with urgency and discretion • Must attend meetings on camera via video conferencing • Must pass a background check • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of residence; US applicants must address visa sponsorship requirements
